ABOUT
Experience 27
Experience 27 exists because of a gap.
When founder Sarah Barney arrived in Madrid nine years ago, the city's retail landscape offered two things: the global luxury groups, and fast fashion. Nothing in between. No space for the independent designers, the family ateliers, the pieces built on genuine craftsmanship rather than the weight of a logo. That absence became the brief.
Every designer carried at 27 is chosen through direct relationship — studio visits, personal conversations, a deep understanding of how and where each piece is made. The curation is deliberately small and intentionally edited. We know everything about everything here, because that knowledge is what we offer alongside the pieces themselves.
What connects the work is not aesthetic but philosophy: designers creating from a place of real authorship, producing in limited quantities, working with materials and construction that are built to last. Pieces that reward the kind of attention that fashion has largely stopped asking for.
The space reflects the same values. There is no pressure, no performance. Clients spend time, ask questions, return. Relationships form around objects that matter. When something isn't in the store, we go directly to the designer to find it.
Discovery is the experience. Everything else follows from that.
Sarah Barney, Founder
Raised on Cape Cod and studied fine arts at Pratt Institute, Sarah spent her career in New York — in senior roles at Saks Fifth Avenue and David Yurman — before making Madrid her permanent home nearly a decade ago.
She founded Experience 27 out of a genuine conviction: that the most compelling work in fashion today is happening outside the major groups, in the studios and ateliers that rarely get the platform they deserve. She visits every designer's showroom or atelier personally before carrying their work — drawn above all to beauty in its many forms, to pieces with a classic foundation and something unexpected in them, the kind of work that catches you before you've had time to think about it.
